This series of paintings was motivated by a visit to the restored prairie of the Willa Cather Foundation in Red Cloud, Nebraska.  The oil paintings are based on watercolors, photographs and memories of the prairie.  The extreme openness and lack of shelter on the prairie, are both exhilarating and terrifying.  I have tried to convey some of that feeling, which Willa Cather wrote about so movingly, in these paintings.
